Notes
ⓘBoth نَسِيء nasi' 'delaying' and مِنسَأَتَهُ min-sa'atah 'his staff' come from the root n-s-ʾ in the sense that a staff is used to push one's herd back.
ⓘThe Sacred Months are the 1st, 12th, 3rd, and 7th of the Islamic calendar. Since the polytheists knew that it was forbidden to fight in those months, they used to transfer the sanctity to other months, say for example, the 3rd, 4th, 8th and 10th as long as they maintained the sanctity of any four months throughout the year.
